We were ready at 6:30 and at the tea stall for breakfast and tea/coffee. Gangaram Chavada, the stall owner had made fresh Kachori as I had requested previous night. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of it with two tiny cups of tea. Others had Poha dish with tea/coffee. We quickly finished our breakfast and started on Mandhata Island Parikrama. This is usually done before one starts the Narmada Parikrama. We walked around the island starting at Omkareshwar temple. The Madhya Pradesh Government has put Bhagwat Geeta Shlokas on concrete boards along the Parikrama path. We crossed many closed food and drink stalls as it was early morning. We started our walk around 7:30am. The complete walk is 7.5 km (4.6miles). The path goes through some wilderness and some small settlements. Most of the people were just waking up and stetting their daily routine. We saw few young girls in uniforms rushing down the path to go to a school. We had to give some sweets and gifts to 9 little girls as part of the preparation for Narmada Parikrama. We found three little girls on the island. We washed their feet and put Haldi /Kumkum for them and gave a small gift bag with bangles, necklace etc. As we continued the walk we came across an archeological sight where there was Shree Sidhheshwar temple (some consider this to be the original Omkareshwar). The building looked ancient. It Is supposedly from Mahabharata time. There were many old broken statues surrounding the building. There were old carved Pillars still standing around the small building where the temple was located. We had darshan in the old temple and continued the walk. Along the path we had to climb up and down steep steps. We could see both the rivers at times on the walk. At end of the walk I fed a banana to a goat. It was suspicious at first but at the whole thing. The full walk took about three hours. When we finished our walk we went and met with Punditji to fill out documents. We showed our IDs and he gave us a Parikrama certificate to carry with us. Rest of the day was relaxing. We had lunch and long nap in the afternoon. In the evening we picked up most of the things we need for tomorrow’s prayers before we start our Parikrama. Baiju had to shave all the hair on his head. We found a person near Gowmukh Ghat who offered his services. He took ten minutes and shaved off all the hair. Baiju said the guys was really good. He did not feel a thing and when it was all done the head did not have even one cut. We packed our backpacks. At the moment we are unsure how we will carry all the weight and walk. We have to see. We ate dinner a little earlier than yesterday. Now to have a good night’s sleep before the big day.
