We got up and got ready by 7:00 am. Including packing. Our usual breakfast spot across the hotel was open. He made the Poha and tea. He asked if we wanted anything else. But we stayed with we had tried and worked for us. We finished breakfast and went to the river bank to meet with Pundit Sandeep and do the Sankalpa Pooja before starting our walk. The full complete pooja took about one hour. We prayed to Narmada Maiya to give us permission to start the walk and also to help us along the way. we finished the pooja and came back to the hotel. We waited for the taxi for few minutes. Is amazing how only with phone conversations we had selected a taxi and driver. Sowmya had used one taxi service in the past and through his contact we got this one. We loaded the two duffle bags and some water bottles. We explained to the driver that we are going to walk and he has to drive couple of kilometers and wait for us. We started walking at 10:08 am. Within few minutes I was drenched in sweat. We kept walking. We were walking via road as the path closer to the river was not useable. We kept walking one behind the other. Baiju was doing great for a person who was completely out just the previous day. We saw the taxi every so often. We stopped each time and replenished our water. I drank water as if I wash a fish. I was sweating out water faster than I could drink. After ten minutes I had to ask the question. “Are we there yet?😳”. I got no response from Baiju or Sowmya. The road was lined with many Teakwood trees and other wild shrubbery. We passed many different ashrams, hotels and one resort on the way. We had met one gentleman in the morning as we were doing our pooja. He invited us to his Ashram for lunch. He gave us his number and sent us his location so we would not miss it. The Narmada Dham is located about 4 km from Omkareshwar. As we got closer we found him waiting at the main road side. When he saw was he was elated. He guided us to his Ashram. It was a small single family house. He lives there with his wife and sister downstairs. Upstairs he has built a room with attached bathroom. The room has about five beds. He wanted us to seat there for the night. However we politely told him we will stay for few minutes. We freshened up and went down to eat something. It turned out they served full lunch with Rice Daal Subbji Roti Chutney and Sheera(Kesari Bhath-sweet made with cream of wheat, sugar, and ghee). We ate well, sat for few minutes and started on our walk again. There were few pictures taken before we left. We continued walking. As soon I started walking I was fully wet with sweat. The heat of midday was beating down us. We tried walking in the shade of trees as much as we could. After about an hour of waking we came across a small shop where he had tender coconuts. All three of were to have one each. That took about 10 minutes. The rest did me good. I felt refreshed and re-energized. We walked for some more time and reached Shree Sadguru Seva Sadan, Mortakka (Bhaktaraj Seva Sadan Ashram) around 2:30 pm. We had walked about 13-14 kilometers. We decided that for the first day it was good distance. We were really exhausted from the heat. We took a short nap. Tea was served at 4:00. Had tea. Took a cold water bath washed clothes and relaxed. Dinner was served promptly at 8:00 pm. Food was simple and delicious. Khichadi , Kadi, Sweet made from cracked wheat. The caretaker couple had done the Parikrama three years ago. They gives advice as what to expect and to watch out for thieves etc. along the way. We finished dinner and slept early. Tomorrow we plan to start earlier.
